Queen’s Ambition

Standard

Drippy, chilly, foggy days like today are best for staying inside with my slippers on and chill music playing.   I told my husband goodbye as he headed off to work and I put in The Witcher 2 to keep me company.  I have  s-l-o-w-l-y  made my way through Chapter One of the game today.   I put on my Chillax playlist and then my Hack n’ Slash playlist to help me batter my way through my enemies toward the finish of the chapter.  I had to pull out the best strategies for each fight.  I quit this evening so that I could start making dinner.  Hubby won’t be home for a few hours still; I’m glad he missed me prepping to make the onion pie.  I was in tears!  I almost never get weepy from cutting onions, I assume it’s because I’m fast, but I had to cut 3 cups of onions paper thin for the pie and I just could not get through it quick enough!  It’s my pie and I’ll cry if I want to!

I needed a new manicure, so I removed “Apple” by Zoya to put on a Witcher-feeling “Queen’s Ambition” by L’Oreal.  It is my lone L’Oreal polish and was a Project Runway edition.  It’s black with silver micro-glitter.  I really liked Illamasqua’s “Creator” but it was super pricey and I don’t often want to wear dark colors. This is one of the best dupes I have ever found and it’s perfect.  And it definitely reminds me of The Witcher.  I could see the sorceress, Sile, wearing it.  I like matching my manicure to whatever game I’m playing.  Am I alone?

I don’t often buy CD’s, but I got Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” CD yesterday.  I’ve seen his most recent Saturday Night Live appearance about four times and it’s hilarious.  I never really liked him much until I saw him do SNL a few years ago.  This was his fifth time hosting and he joined the 5-timer’s club with Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Steven Baldwin, Tom Hanks and Candice Bergen on stage.  He performed “Suit & Tie” from this album and his performance was good, I decided to get it. I was not disappointed. Most of the tracks are longer than they are on other CD’s.  It was an especially good “chill” album to play today.  I’m listening to Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” album on my iPhone at the moment.

Hubby and I have a Netflix membership that we used to use all the time but since moving out here to the boonies, we have a limited data plan via AT&T so our 20GB data cap keeps us from being able to stream as much media as we used to.  We do get the discs in the mail, too but for some reason they just sit unwatched for weeks. we finally got around to watching Little Women yesterday. It was pretty good although we both agreed Winona Ryder was a little stilted in it and that her characterization of Jo in Little Women must have been the basis of her small-town character, Babe in Mr. Deeds.  Susan Sarandon and Claire Danes were great and Christan Bale was a surprise!

We also got a new charcoal grill yesterday!  It happened to be on sale and we’ve been wanting to upgrade from our bucket grill (literally just a bucket with a grate).  Hubby just got home and already has it fired up for night 2 of grilling.  Yesterday he unpacked it and grilled burgers and fish.  Tonight is a chuck roast that I scored and marinated in soy sauce.

Thumbs up!

We made a boring trip to the grocery store a little more fun!

Another year, another blog

I have started numerous blogs on other blog sites, but it’s spring and time for a change. Time to try WordPress. I’m not sure how narrow of a scope I want this blog to be. I’d really like a dedicated place to just -write-; daily musings, what video game I’m currently playing and what I think about it, my newest nail polish, pretty pictures I have taken and recipes I’ve come up with. Oh, and gardening. And DIY projects. And household maintenance tips….

I enjoyed a few rounds of Bookworm Heroes on my iPhone while going through the 2,000 or so emails I have received in the few weeks I have been mostly offline.  Mother was happy to try to best me at the game but I spanked she who used to spank me! She taught me my ABC’s but now it’s IN HER FACE! We both just started playing the game yesterday and I was a bit unsure how we’d match up as we are both wordsmiths, but I was quite pleased when I creamed her in the five or so games we have played since yesterday. I realized that she wasn’t using her character’s specials and abilities so my wins were in name only. I called her to explain how it all seems to work; I had been playing the same amount of time she had but I tend to poke and prod and figure out the guts of games pretty quickly.
You can read my review of this game and other games I’m currently playing on my website Saving the World From Evil…again!.

I got to chat on Facebook with a teammate from my high school softball team, The Warwick Raiders.   We extolled the virtues of pet care and animal rescues and decried the shame of poor local laws which allow licensed dogs to roam loose even on private property that does not belong to the owner.  It’s always good to stay in touch with friends and share wonderful memories….and complain about stuff.
I spent the rest of the day setting up this blog, updating the aforementioned blog, replaying The Witcher 2 on the Dark difficulty (man, is it DARK!), and trying to plan how I will get 3.5 acres of grass cut with a push-mower tomorrow.
